Is it bad to “crack your neck or back”?
Wanting to crack the neck or back is caused by tension from a misaligned or fixated vertebra, which causes another part of the spine to compensate by moving too much and “popping”, leading to hyper mobility, instability, and pain. The misaligned or fixated segment should be adjusted by a chiropractor so that the rest of the spinal column will be aligned and normal function can be restored.

Is chiropractic care addictive?
There are no addictive substances given such as caffeine, nicotine, morphine, etc. When people can live life pain free or just live life feeling healthier, the desire to go to a chiropractor is well understood. Most people are afraid to feel great and stop taking Advil or Tylenol. There is nothing wrong with feeling great and when you realize how this feels you will do anything to maintain that level of wellness.

Can I go only once?
Of course. Once is better than never. But chiropractic works best with repetition and time. Problems don’t happen immediately; rather they are often formed over long periods of time. It is difficult to correct a long-standing problem after one visit.

What will happen if I stop going?
Usually chiropractors will offer you two approaches to treatment: relief care and corrective care. Relief care involves enough treatment to alleviate pain and other symptoms, but there is a greater chance of a relapse. When completing corrective treatment, generally the doctor is able to correct the problem and maintain the body from relapsing.

Do chiropractors accept insurance?
Absolutely. Chiropractors have been accepting insurance for 25 years. Like all other doctors, each insurance policy has different coverage. Managed health care takes many forms: HMO, PPO, and POS. HMO plans demand that you stay in network to benefit the reduced health costs. PPO and POS plans allow you to go out of network, but you are penalized by paying a higher percentage of your bills. For those that have minimal or no chiropractic coverage, there are affordable flex plans that the doctor will provide so treatment can progress.

Is chiropractic similar to a massage?
No, the only similarity is that they both use their hands. The education of a Doctor of Chiropractic is 4 years of undergraduate and 4 years of Chiropractic School. Massage Therapists attain their license or certificate with 6 months of school. Chiropractors work with the joints of the spine and extremities, and diagnosis musculoskeletal conditions. Massage Thereapists generally work to improve muscular function and lymph node activity.

Is chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic is among the safest of the healing arts. Think of auto insurance. A risky driver, or one that has the potential to cause a large amount of damage, has a high premium rate. A safe driver pays a fraction of the high-risk driver. The same rationale follows for malpractice insurance. Compare malpractice rates between chiropractors and other health professionals. Chiropractors’ malpractice premiums are a small fraction of those for medical doctors, especially orthopedists and surgeons.
